Mmm…Macarons

I have recently become obsessed with making macarons.  Not the coconut cluster dessert (aka macaroons) – but a delicate French dessert invented by a famous bakery in Paris called Laduree.  Macarons are primarily made out of almond flour, egg whites, and icing sugar.  While it sounds relatively simple in terms of the ingredients, the little buggers are rather difficult to get just right.  No wonder they charge $2.00 for a tiny macaron.  Batches and batches later, I still have a problem with gaps in my macaron shells – so, the adventure continues.

A very talented friend of mine came over to make macarons with me one day and put together this amazing video – check it out!

If you’re looking for a good macaron resource, I highly recommend the blog “Not So Humble Pie” for recipes, tips and tricks!  The recipe I am currently experimenting with is from this site (french macaron)
