About

This is my back to school blog.  It’s been awhile since I’ve been in school, but this time around, the school supply list is far more exciting: knives, spatulas, whisks, meat thermometers etc.  I am taking a break from my life as an epidemiologist  to do what I have always wanted to do – go to culinary school!!  The end goal?  Not sure.  Maybe a new career path?  If nothing else, I will just eat better (and hopefully the people around me).  I am hoping this blog will be a way to share some of the things I am learning or experimenting with.

As for the blog name, More Oil may seem a bit weird, especially for a moderately health-conscious culinary student.   The phrase “more oil” or “add oil” (to be more precise), is a literal translation from a Chinese saying that is used to encourage someone — to tell them to keep going and persevere.  It seemed appropriate given the circumstances, i.e. my parents’ response to my news that I was going to go back to school was..”medical school?!!!”   Um, not quite.
